U21 League

The inaugural club game in the new progressive u20/u21 game took place on Sunday morning when Maree/Oranmore fc hosted our neighbours and friends Colga fc. This was a game which had everything well reffed by Jim Buddy Bodkin. Amazingly Maree/Oranmore took a 3-0 lead only to see Colga equalise to make it 3-3. A winner came for Maree/Oranmore fc came via a glancing Luke Smyth header with less than 5 mins remaining. The opening goals came from Sean Delany, Eoghan Mc Donagh and Declan Gill. The idea of this new exciting League is to act as a bridge between youth and adult soccer with the vast bulk of players being at 3rd level after coming up through our club ranks.

Cup Action

In Irish Cup action the u14s defeated a good AC Celtic side from Athlone on Sunday afternoon with goals from Colm Whelan and Dara Cleary in an excellent game of football which could have gone either way.

In FAI u18 Cup action Maree/Oranmore fc had to work extremely hard to overcome an excellent Bearna Na Forbacha Aontaithe side on a 3-2 scoreline in Oranmore. The championship leaders certainly put it up to their Premier opponents in a very close game. The Maree/Oranmore fc goals came courtesy of Alan Greene (pen), Danny Travis (free) and Eoin Lyons. For Maree/Oranmore fc Shane Cox, Kevin Horgan, Princewell Diala and Danny Travis looked sharp and contributed well to a fine victory. Speedy recovery to Bearna Na Forbacha Dylan Cummins who had to leave the field of play with an accidental head injury.

League Action

Our two girls sides at u14 and u18 had two fine wins against Corrib Rangers and Moyne Villa on Sunday last in League action. Two goals from Nicole Duffy, one in either half contributed to a 2-1 victory against Corrib Rangers away for the u14s (pictured) with Eabha Kelly, Rachel Burke and Tania Doyle impressing while the u18s had an impressive home win against a brave Moyne Villa side with the goalscorers including Aisling Quinn, Ruth Tansey (3), Rhian Heery (2), Roise Mc Mahon and Tara Brogan.

The u13 Div 1 boys side went down to a physically stronger Corrib Rangers side despite an excellent strike from Ciaran Mc Donagh.

Galway & District League Players.

Well done to Club players Colm Whelan, Conor Daly and Michael Burke who played for the Galway and District u13 League side who defeated the Mayo League on Saturday last.
